Montgomery | Comments | Reworked in the late 80s by the very capable hands of Les Furber, the Penticton Golf and Country Club now features a fully modern layout, but still retains the traditional sensibilities of a club that can trace its roots back to 1923. Most significant of the upgrades was the installation of an attractive canal system, responsible for bringing water now into play on over 50% of its holes. Other revisions included the rebuilding of several tee boxes and the formation of some new greens. Most of the greens, however, have remained small in size and are still renowned for putting fast. For a course that has long been a local favourite, response to the changes has been exceptionally positive. Golfers like the many new challenges of the course, but still praise it for its overall playability. |

The Pine Hills course is a 9 hole course designed by Norman Woods of Kokanee Springs fame. Its unique design using natural ground contours, mature ponderosa pine trees and some elevated tees provide both enjoyment for beginners and challenge for experts. The Sage Mesa course is a challenging mid-length par 33 Arizona-style design that combines naturally elevated tees with dramatic greens. With the spectacular setting of the course overlooking Penticton and Okanagan Lake, cameras are a must. The Sage Mesa course also boasts a superb practice facility complete with one of the best driving ranges in the Okanagan. Covered driving mats, grass tees, chipping and putting areas, plus qualified instruction from CPGA professionals are all available for you to "fine tune" your game. |

Designed by professional golfer Ken Black, the course was completed in 1928. An additional nine opened in 2001. True to the dictates of that time, little earth was moved in its construction and Princeton's fairways stay true to the gentle undulations of the terrain. At 6563 yards over the 18 holes, Princeton has excellent length and encourages golfers to go for broke on many of the holes. This length is in evidence on the long par three 230 yard 8th. There is little room for error on this challenging hole, as tee shots must both be long and on target to avoid complications with a large tree to the left of the raised green, and the fence to the right. The course offers the unique design of 5 par 3 and 5 par 5's which makes for a fun change. The par 3, 17th is very scenic and challenging at 210 yards and elevated 110ft above the green making for great hang time. |

Its location is actually quite close to Penticton (just 15 minutes north via Hwy. #97), and is well worth the detour. The course sits on a high plateau 300 meters above Okanagan Lake in ruggedly mountainous terrain. The views from the course and its clubhouse can be quite breathtaking, especially at sunrise or sunset. Summerland's 18 holes can be separated into two distinct 9's. The front 9 lies on relatively level benchland and has open, forgiving fairways. The greens here have recently undergone renovation, enlarging their size to an average 6500 sq. ft. each. The back 9 was created from the rolling, heavily forested terrain adjacent to the gaping Trout Creek Canyon. The canyon's yawning 500 ft. depth is in play on three of the holes - most spectacularly on the finishing 18th which has the canyon down its entire right side. |
