Transportation: Taxis
There are many taxi companies in Okanagan. Some do well with telephone reservations, others have stands at
airports, major shopping malls or hotels. Your best bet is to use a taxi company based in the community where you are staying or visiting... they'll usually be quicker to pick you up.
The taxi licensing is segmented by comunity, so the taxi company must be
licensed to pick you up there (even if they dropped you off from another city).
The rates for taxi service is somewhat standardized, and start at about $1.60
when you get in plus about a buck a kilometre. The area is pretty spread out,
though, so the cost for a ride -- especially between communities -- will add up quickly.
Airport to downtown rides will cost you about $26 in Kelowna, about $12 in
Penticton, $9 for Salmon Arm. A taxi ride between the Kelowna and Penticton will run you
$90 to $100. A ride between Salmon Arm and Vernon will be about the same.
